Delightful Dudu Xaba
Founding CEO, Mpande yeHlumelo Publishers

A New Chapter Begins at Mpande yeHlumelo Publishers

After many fulfilling years as the founding CEO of Mpande yeHlumelo Publishers, the time has come for me to close this chapter of leadership and pass the pen to a new storyteller. As every author knows, there comes a moment when you reach the end of your paragraph, take a breath, and allow another voice to continue the narrative — I do so with joy and confidence.

I have officially resigned as CEO, knowing that the story we began together is in the most capable hands. Mr Thando Xaba, my son and a visionary in his own right, now takes up the role.

This is not the beginning of his journey, but rather the unveiling of a journey that has long been unfolding behind the scenes. Some of you will remember his dedication and commitment during the #Lockdown Siyabhala project — when pens became tools of survival and writing became a lifeline for the youth. At a time when fear silenced many, Thando helped ignite voices and dreams, giving aspiring authors hope through storytelling.

As I pass the pen, I do so not with sadness but with gratitude. I am proud of the foundation we’ve built and even prouder of the new ink that will shape our next pages. Mpande yeHlumelo will continue to grow, to empower, and to democratise publishing for all — and I will always be its loudest reader and cheerleader.

Here’s to the next chapter — may it be bold, brave, and beautifully written.

With love and respect,

Thando Xaba
Chief Executive Officer
Mpande yeHlumelo Publishers

A Message from Our New CEO, Thando Xaba

Dear Authors, Readers, and Valued Partners,

It is with great honour and a deep sense of purpose that I step into the role of Chief Executive Officer at Mpande YeHlumelo Publishers.

The company has always stood as a platform for voices that deserve to be heard — especially those of first-time authors navigating an industry that can seem distant and exclusive. As I take on this role, I carry forward that legacy with pride while introducing fresh energy, innovation, and a strong commitment to service excellence.

My professional background lies in the hospitality industry, where I worked my way up to the management position at one of South Africa’s premier establishments. This experience equipped me with leadership skills, operational insight, and the ability to serve a diverse clientele with professionalism and care. These values remain central to how I will lead Mpande yeHlumelo — with empathy, precision, and a client-focused approach.

In addition, I bring a strong foundation in technology, including various digital platforms and graphic design, positioning us to respond creatively to the demands of modern publishing. I believe that storytelling today requires more than just words — it demands innovation in how we package, present, and promote content.

One of the most defining moments of my leadership journey came during the COVID-19 lockdown. I served as project coordinator for a national campaign, #LockdownSiyabhala, which successfully delivered author training in 11 of the 12 South African languages during a time of profound uncertainty. Despite the challenges of the pandemic, I ensured that our team fulfilled the client’s mandate with excellence, commitment, and adaptability — values that will continue to guide my leadership as we grow.

Under my leadership, Mpande yeHlumelo remains deeply rooted in our core offerings: publishing across all genres, ghost-writing, and author development. I’m also proud to introduce a powerful new title — a memoir by one of South Africa’s brave youth from “Soweto 11,” soon to be unveiled.

As we grow, we’re expanding our services to include events management and an annual book festival that will celebrate and spotlight local talent. Speaking of annual events, Mpande yeHlumelo is proud to introduce a powerful new tradition—an annual anthology of short stories, which shall be written by South African writers, to spotlight the social crises affecting our nation. This collaborative collection, launching as Chapter 1 later this year, brings together diverse voices and experiences to reflect, question, and inspire change. Each year, a new volume will be published, marking not only the continuation of this important literary journey but also our commitment to giving authors the platform they deserve.

You can also look forward to fresh innovations, a stronger digital footprint, and the appointment of a dedicated public relations officer who will strengthen our connection with the public, media, and our growing community of authors.

I believe the present phase is not just a transition — it’s a transformation. I’m excited about what’s ahead and honoured to lead the company into its next chapter.

Warm regards,

It is more than just writing books
